The inlet and outlet valves 5, 9 may be contained in a single housing 4. The inlet valve consists of a membrane 16 which may abut against a cylinder 13 to prevent flow into catheter 7, but cannot prevent flow in the reverse direction owing to the provision of grooves 20 in the adjacent face of cylinder 18 which grooves prevent seating of the membrane against the latter cylinder. The outlet valve 9 is similarly constructed, but the grooves are provided in a cylinder 22 corresponding to cylinder 13, thereby reversing the permitted flow direction.
