A pigmented stabiliser, pref. basic Pb stearate, Pb phthalate or Pb phosphite, is pptd. on an acid-binding filler, esp. CaCO3, during or after pptn. of latter in modification of Parent Patent disclosing fireproof polymer material prepn. by admixing (a) polymer which splits off volatile acids on heating, esp. PVC, opt. plasticised with non-inflammable plasticisers, with (b) a finely-divided pptd. filler of 250 (100) m mu particle size, capable of binding volatile acids given off, thus preventing subsequent damage. The pigmented stabilisers envelope the filler particles and protect them from attack by acids, esp. HCl. Uses include insulators or sheathing for electric cables and conductors.
