Stabiliser for monomeric N-hydroxyalkylated (meth)acrylamide containing solns. Stabiliser is an alpha-amino carboxylic acid of general formula:- in which R = H, CH3, C2H5, C3H7 or C4H9, pref. H; added as 0.1-1% by wt. of monomer. The stabilised solns. are used for the prep. of self cross-linkable stabilised, copolymers with other polymerisable unsatd. compds. Thermal stability of N-amide improved without coloration of soln. or reduction of reactivity. No spontaneous cross-linking occurs on storage.
