Respective transportable worktables carry stacks of garment pieces in pre-registered locations, and each worktable moves to a respective feed-in station at which the pieces are removed from the stacks singly and oriented, a piece from each station then being combined with a piece from another station and the two pieces being joined together, so that identical products as made automatically and repeatedly in the manufacture of garments, hats, shoes and the like. - Specifically multiple worktables are handled by multiple mechanism which feed worktables singly to and past detectors which identify the worktables as by sensing markings on the tables, and transfer mechanisms operate to feed articles from selected tables to a work station which assembles them.
