The plant, with or without preclarification and/or post clarification tanks, consists of a number of settling tanks in cascade each of which is aerated on a discontinuous basis, the aeration periods of the different tanks being individually variable under control of measured oxygen level signals. Relatively simple, compact and easily maintained.
