Continuous hydrogenation-of unsatd fatty acids - using a palladium on alpha-alumina catalyst

A current of the acid is contacted with hydrogen running in the same direction in the presence of a fixed catalystic bed contg 0.5-5 wt.% Pd an alpha-alumina at ca 93-232 degrees C. Used in fat and oil industry to convert the unsatd. acids to products of higher m.pt. Catalyst is unaffected by fatty acids and allows continuous prodn. Temp. is low and contact time is short.
