1312306 Apparatus for proctological operations R J TJONG-JOE-WAI 30 June 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 31750/70 Heading A5R An obturo-muco-retractor for the performance of proctological operations such as radial hemorrhoidectomies comprises a cylindrical body portion 12, conically tapered at the front and having a central cavity 14 at the rear in which a shaft 18 is fixedly attached a cylindrical obturator 22, having a cavity facing the cavity 14, slidable on the shaft, and urged towards the body by a spring 32 abutted to a wing nut 34, threaded on the shaft. In use the device is inserted into the rectum, and the mucosal cylinder drawn against the body portion 12 by means of a silk thread (54). The obturator is then screwed against the body member thus pushing some of the tissue between the rims 26 and 28 of the body portion and obturator respectively and in the cavity therebetween. By pulling the instrument outwardly of the body the skin of the anal passage is placed under tension and made accessible for surgical operation, Fig. 8, (not shown).
