1318469 Phonograph record selection circuits SEEBURG CORP OF DELAWARE 9 Sept 1970 [11 Sept 1969] 43076/70 Heading G4H A method of selecting a particular record selection in a phonograph comprises generating a group of characters which identify the selection, encoding and storing the characters until all the characters have been selected and stored, transmitting the coded characters to a second store and decoding the characters after all the characters have been received and stored. The method is used in record selection apparatus which is provided with a keyboard of switches, the sequential depression of three of which selects a record in a control record playing apparatus. After inserting appropriate coins, each digit of a three digit decimal number corresponding to the selected record is encoded in binary form by actuating the respective keyboard switches. Each switch when operated marks one or two of four output leads with a pulse provided by a power source connected to each lead via a resistor. The operated switch earths the respective lead via a transistor switched on by the insertion of the appropriate coins. The binary coded digits are fed to a first shift register which is clocked by pulses from a circuit connected to a switch ganged to the keyboard switches. When this register is full its contents are transmitted to a second register the outputs of which are fed to a decoder comprising a number of NOR gates. The decoder provides control currents for a memory circuit in the record playing apparatus.
