The pick wound on the drum of a measuring device for shuttless looms is adjusted in length without changing the drum or altering its dia. by using a variable gearing to control the angular winding speed of the measuring drum. The drum has a cover with a slot, through which the yarn is led by a guide lever, and is clamped during winding on by a dished pulley lined with a resilient material, and sliding on a shaft along the bore of which the thread passes to the injector nozzle, the motions being timed by a cam system linked to the loom drive.
