1365688 Reducing iron ore NIPPON KOKAN K K and D KUNII 21 Dec 1971 [26 Dec 1970] 59494/71 Heading C7D Sponge iron is produced by granulating or crushing iron oxide-bearing material to grains having an average diameter of at least 3 mm, feeding the grains to a fluidized bed having a temperature of 900‹C-1200‹C and passing a reducing gas therethrough. The oxide material may be pre-heated before entering the reduction zone and the fluidized bed may be provided by a multi-stage apparatus. The reducing gas may be a reacted mixture of petroleum and air.
