1351396 Piperazinylmethyl - spiro - dibenzocycloheptadiene-dioxolane DELALANDE SA 13 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 27525/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the Formula (I) wherein Z represents -CH 2 CH 2 - or a group and R represents a benzhydryl chain or a C 1-3 alkyl group possibly carry substituent chosen from hydroxy, carboxylic ester containing at most 5 carbon atoms, carboxylic acid amides of the formula in which the group denotes either an alkyl (or dialkyl)amino group in which the alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a heterocyclic nucleus chosen from morpholino, pyrrolidino and hexamethyleneimino may be obtained by reacting a compound of Formula (II) with a mono-N-R-substituted piperazine. The intermediate of Formula II may be obtained by reacting, in the presence of tin tetrachloride, epibromohydrin with dibenzo[a,d]- cycloheptadi-(or tri-)en-5-one. Pharmaceutical compositions, useful for the treatment of coughs, visceral and vascular spasms, pains, respiratory depression, hypertension, circulatory deficiencies, cardiac arrhythmia, gastroduodenal ulcers, allergies and edemas, comprise compounds of Formula (I) above together with a diluent or carrier, in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration.
