This device computes a value of a parameter decisive of the stability of the vessel in a manner that allows for the effect of that portion of the spoil that is in fluidized condition, to compare the computed value of the parameter with a previously calculated value to provide a signal 92, Fig. 3B (not shown), when the computed value approaches the calculated value. Jack 113 is responsive to that signal and operates valves 114, 115 which control the loading of spoil into the hold.
