Silcarbane copolymers for stronger semipermeable membranes - contg. selected ratio of vinyl trimethyl silane and vinyl butyl dimethyl silane groups

Silcarbane copolymers contg. randomly distributed gps. having formulae: where R is 1-3C alkyl; R1 is 1-3C alkyl or phenyl; R2 is H, CH3 when X is (I) and H when X is (II); R3 is H or CH3; R4 is benzyl or 3-10C alkyl and is different from R1. The copolymers have excellent film forming properties and act as selective semipermeable membranes having a better combination of mechanical strength and elasticity than known copolymers.
