On depressing a sleeve 6, jaws 2 are swung to an open position to release or receive the hops. A pawl (15) (Fig. 2, not shown) may be mounted on one of the jaws 2, so as to engage the jaw and hold both open until it is dislodged by the hops being pushed upwardly between the jaws. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the part 4 surrounding the jaws 2 is rigid with the inner member 7, and the sleeve 6 is connected to the jaw-operating rods 9, 9. In another variation (Fig. 4, not shown), the rods 9, 9, are replaced by a single yoke-like member (18). There may be just a single jaw 2 cooperating with a fixed surface. Instead of the sleeve 6 being operated manually, a cam (not shown) may operate on the upper surface of the part 4.
