Filler rod feed device, esp. for inert gas welding with non-consumable electrode and electron beam welding, transports rod to weld at non-uniform rate pref. in discontinuous movements and consists of feed rollers driven by shaft which can be coupled in or out by electrical impulses from sender or by variable speed motor operating under fluctuating voltage. Technique produces smaller, less porous seam more rapidly and using less filler and less heat than conventional methods.
