The oil supply system has an oil buffer reservoir coupled to the output side of the pump and to the input side of the oil-cooled cables. The buffer reservoir absorbs fluctuations in oil pressure, especially when the pump is switched on so that sudden pressure increases are avoided and therefore do not cause the pump to be switched off again almost immediately by the pressure overload monitoring system. The reservoir fluctuations in volume are less than a tenth of the volume fluctuations in the cable section and correspond to between one and ten times the quantity of oil pumped per minute by the pump.
