An intensifier for a cold chamber pressure die-casting machine has in the conduit between the preloading chamber for the third phase intensifier piston and the low-pressure reservoir, a valve which has a seat which is fluid operated. The seat movement is preferably adjustable and the operating fluid for the valve seat is preferably connected in parallel to the pressure reservoir used in the second injection phase. Also, a switching valve may be provided to operate the control valve for the second injection phase, pressure reservoir to initiate the second injection phase when the press piston reaches a certain distance of travel. The intensifier piston can be kept at rest until a desired pressure is attained in the shot chamber/die.
