The copying frame for photographic plates consists of two hinged-together, foldable-together frame parts, one with an illumination opening and holding the photographic plate to be copied, and the other carrying the copy photographic plate. In the folded-together state, a vacuum can be applied, and the two frame parts and also the emulsion sides of the plates can be pressed together. One of the two frame parts preferably the one holding the copy plate, has a frame-type plate holder which is movable only in the direction of the normal to the plate and which is held in a diaphragm or diaphragm spider. Transverse motion, which could damage the emulsion of the valuable plates, is prevented.
