A press with hydraulic overload safety control system and forming tool weight equalisation system, has a pressure sensing device activated only by pressures exceeding O bar attached to a pressure pad which can be inflated by gas from valve controlled by signals from pressure sensor in a complex circuitry. The pressure sensor also activates valves on a pressure reservoir which admit or release gas from a cylinder-piston unit acting as a forming tool counterpoise system. The control stage includes an additional control element which after one or other of the valves is actuated for a preset time is first opened and then closed.
