Lightweight smoke stacks of great heights are built from external shells between which space is left for insulation material and for reinforcing members. The spaces between the insulation and shell accommodate reinforcing rods and ropes for prestressing the external shells. Alternatively or additionally vibration damping means can be accommodated into these spaces. The rectangular outer shell accommodates a circular inner shell and thermal insulation material, such as mineral wood, is attached to the inner shell outside surface. The spaces between the circular insulation material and the outer shell corners are used for accommodating tensioning features held in brackets attached to the outer shell corners.
