Each light conductor has an optical shutter associated therewith to inhibit light output from all the conductors except that one being balanced. The gamma camera specifically includes two image intensifiers in cascade coupling the scintillation layer to the light conductor inputs which are arranged in a chessboard pattern, all the conductors associated with a co-ordinate which extends along a diagonal of the pattern or is parallel thereto being coupled to one photomultiplier. The photomultiplier outputs are processed and the radiation pattern displayed on a C.R.T.
