1529955 Inserting catheters DOW CORNING CORP 15 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974] 42194/75 Heading A5R A trocar 10 for inserting a catheter 32 into a bladder 36 consists of a solid stainless steel or polymeric cylindrical shank 12 terminating in three flat faces 16 forming exterior angles of 10-15 degrees which at their apices provide cutting edges and taper to a point, a groove 18 running from the rear centre of one face to the interior of a head 20. The trocar in use is provided within a steel cannula 24 with a wall from 0.002 to 0.005 mm thick and spaced from the trocar surface by 0.0005 to 0.005 mm., and the assembly is inserted through a centre hole of a body seal 26 and a patient's skin into the bladder, sterile water or saline solution in the bladder passing through the groove and out of the head indicating when the bladder is reached. The trocar is then removed and the catheter inserted through the cannula into the bladder. The cannula is removed and the catheter fastened in a groove in a solid block fixed to the seal, and provided at its exterior end with a three-way valve.
