The appliance for making electroconductive a grinding disc (3) made of porous, electrically non-conductive material consists of a plating chamber (10) with mounts (3a) for the grinding disc. From storage vessels (11, 12), plating solution is pumped into the plating chamber by means of a cylinder (4) and an associated piston (7). The solution remains in the plating chamber for a time which is sufficient to deposit the major part of the metal from the solution into the pores of the grinding disc. The spent solution is then drained and replaced by fresh solution. This ensures that the solution after the residence time is largely depleted of metal and the metal is forced to be deposited mainly in the plating chamber and thus in the grinding disc. IMAGE
