1358531 Centrifugal separators PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 16 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 28143/71 Heading B2P [Also in Division F1] A separator for removing solid objects from the inlet pipe of a draining pump of a washing machine comprises a chamber 4 having inlet and outlet apertures which are not aligned with one another, the edge of the outlet aperture 14 being provided with a collar 13 which projects towards the interior of the chamber. Used water from the machine enters the chamber 4 tangentially through an inlet pipe 11. The aperture 14 which is formed in the bottom wall 10 of the chamber 4 opens into a pump chamber 8 in which is mounted an impeller 7 driven by an electric motor 9. The collar 13 may have different shapes as shown in Figs. 1, 5 and 6. In operation, when the used water enters the chamber 4 through the pipe 11 eddies are produced by which the objects are thrown against the peripheral wall of the chamber and finally contact the bottom wall 10 where they are prevented from reaching the aperture 14 by the collar 13.
