Rolling mill scale recovery in steelworks - by pelletising and sintering, with exhaust-gas-scrubber on sintering plant

Recovery of roll-scale from steel rolling mills in which the scale is pressed into pellets and sintered, the exhaust gases from the sintering being washed and subjected to dust-extn., is improved by passing these exhaust gases through a scrubber for the simultaneous washing and removal of dust. The pref. plant consists of a pelleting press, a sintering device and a washing plant consisting of a wet dust extn. unit and pref. fed with alkaline wash water. Eliminates the use of electrostatic filters in which fires may occur due to oil or fat on the scale and/or pyrophoric particles.
