A tyre chain consists of a set of short chains (1) to cross over the tread, and which come in contact with the snow covered surface when the vehicle is travelling, all attached at one end to another chain (2) forming a closed loop, and at the other end to an open length of chain (3). At each end of this chain (3) is a loop (4) and to one of them is connected a single short chain which also contacts the tread, but instead of being connected to the closed loop, is connected to a securing chain (7) terminating in a tensioning spring (8) and a snap hook. The whole can be pulled over the tyre from one side, requiring only a slight movement of the sheel, then secured on the other side.
