Three potentiometers are coupled together with a common pick off point and arranged such that each output has a phase shift (1, 2, 3) have a section (5) that covers an arc of 120 deg. of a low resistance material. The remaining section (4) has high resistance. Each low resistance section is physically displaced relative to the others by 120 deg. When the common pick-up (6) is turned through one revolution the output from any potentiometer the output voltage characteristic is traingular, with the maximum equal to the reference input (UREF). For any position of the pick off the sum of output voltages is equal to the reference input.
