Gaseous leak detection system to determine the integrity of the heater and vaporiser coolant coils in the secondary circuit of a liquid metal (Na) cooled reactor by pressurising the tertiary (water/steam) circuit with N2 to normal working pressure, whilst maintaining the secondary circuit at low pressure and normal temp. Defects in the coolant coils will be revealed by N2 ingress which releases at the free surface of the Na coolant held in the argon blanketted equalising vessels and is detected by gas chromatograph. The injection of small quantities of He enhances the sensitivity of detection and establishes the presence of fine leaks. Location of the leaks is effectfed by the injection of H2 detected by chromatographs mounted on each heater and vaporiser.
