A simple parts store or warehouse monitoring system is presented, in which the content of each location (shelf or cubicle) is modelled by the position of a potentiometer at that location. The potentiometer reading may be altered by hand when items are added to or removed from that location, or alternatively may automatically alter if some weigh device is used in each location. Each potentiometer is connected back to a central console in the system and corresponds to a meter reading on that console, so that the store-keeper may see at a glance what stock of any item he holds. This is much cheaper and simpler than the corresponding computer system and is potentially more accurate, since the console reflects the actual state of affairs, rather than displaying an inventory which may be inaccurate.
