Thermal disinfection of hospital or abattoir effluent - solids septd. first by screening

The thermal disinfection of effluents from hospitals or abattoris consists of a first stage in which a solids fraction is sepd. by screening from a liq-solids fraction with solids of under 2 mm particle size. The former is thermally disinfected and the latter is freed from solids down to an 0.3 mm size which are added to the solids fraction circuit. The remaining liq. fraction is preheated in a counterflow with the sterilized hot water from the final steam-operated sterilizer. This saves the necessity for a disintegrator which easily clogs and is damaged by entrained metal. Clogging of the heat exchangers by fibrous components is also eliminated.
