Picture transmitting system - uses small number of short code words in scanning time for original picture

On the sending side a modulator for difference pulse code modulation is provided. On the receiving side a demodulator for difference pulse code demodulation is provided. Every transmitted prediction error is fed to the demodulator through a change-over switch changing synchronously with the scanning rate, one directly and the sequentially n-1 via a delay memory. The delay period is related to the reciprocal of the number of pictures, n. The period of the latter is equal to the scanning time for the original picture and the length of time is usually about a thirtieth of a second, n being equal to 2, 3, 4,....etc.
