Yarn feed device includes yarn reserve - applied onto a drum by a feed disc inclined to the drum

A feed disc having pref. teeth on its outer edge and having pref. a peripheral groove is pref. located within a drum having axial slots such that the teeth of the feed disc project through the slots. The feed disc and drum rotate pref about off-set axes and yarn is withdrawn from a supply by passage around the periphery of the feed disc and is transferred from the feed disc onto the surface of the drum to form a reserve winding of yarn. The plane of the feed disc is inclined w.r.t. the axis of rotation of the drum so that as the disc and drum rotate, the disc firstly forces the new turn of yarn axially along the drum and up to the reserve winding, and secondly forces the reserve winding axially along the drum. The feed device is used with knitting machines, and a constant tension of the yarn in the reserve winding is maintained.
