The spindle (1) carries the tool (2) and is supported in the bearing (3) in which the rollers are guided by a separate ring (5) mounted on the spindle (1). An adjusting nut (9) abuts against a metal or rubber spring (8) which is housed in a recess in the ring (5). The other end of the ring (5) has a recess (7) with a sealing ring (6). The recess (7) communicates with a radial hole (11) connected to a source of high pressure oil (12). Admitting oil to the recess (7) overcomes the force of the spring (8) and pushes the ring (5) away from the bearing rollers and allows the cutting tool to be withdrawn without damage to the workpiece.
