Composting of settled sludge - particularly from activated sludge plants in aerating silos

Composting of settled sludge by addn. of carbon carriers by mixing and pre-aerating the sludge with pre-determined proportions of added carbon carries in a pre-fermenting silo, in which the mass remains in the silo for a long residence time e.g. ca 29 hrs. Pref. the material to be fermented is supplied to the top zone of the silo by means of compressed air and is aerated continuously for 12-24 hrs. via aerating ribs with pre-heated air at 26 degrees C. Ensures complete fermentation. Final product can be used agriculturally.
