Mounting aluminium metallographic specimens - in thermoplastic mixed with aluminium powder providing conductor for electrolytic etching

A conducting mounting- or embedding layer, esp. for the electrolytic etching of test-pieces contg. aluminium or similar probes etc., for metallographic purposes, consists of a thermoplastic binder or a cold- or hot-setting binder mixed with aluminium powder. The pref. mixing ratio consists of 1 pt. vol. binder to 0.05-4 pts. vol. Al powder, pref. using conducting Al grains with size 4 mm, and the esp. pref. mixt. consists of 1 part vol. of a thermoplastic with 1 part vol. Al powder with grain size =125 mu m. This material is less expensive than usual mounting materials e.g. contg. Cu for conduction.
