The flow of material is uniformly superposed on a constant gas flow; to give a constant weight of material for a unit volume of gas. The gas material mixture is passed before a light source and the light intensity change due to the material in suspension is the measure for the material fineness. The gas material mixture passes through a test section and then material is deposited from the gas stream and is returned to the main material flow at a point downstream from the branching off point; a pneumatic pipeline is provided for the gas-material mixture, with transparent walls in the test section.
