Parent Patent discloses prepn. of carbonate esters having general formula RO.COOR (where R is alky, aralkyl or cycloalkyl) by reacting an alcohol with CO and O2 in the presence of a catalyst system which is formed before or during reaction from a Cu salt and, if salt is other than the chloride or bromide, from the chloride or bromide of another metal and furthermore from a triaryl phosphine oxide or an organic phosphate, phosphite or phosphonate. In present Patent of Addn., in the catalytically active Cu complex, mol. ratio CuI: Cl(or Br): P is 1:1:1 and mol. ratio CuII:Cl(or Br): P is 1:2:2. Used for polycarbonate prodn. Control of Cu : Cl (or Br) : P mol. ratio leads to improved carbonate ester yields.
