The volume of flow is recorded without interruption on a recording drum, even in tidal areas, and is calculated according to the Manning-trickler formula. The constantly changing water levels are determined by means of two communicating propelling vessels or electrically connected floats at a distance of 0.2-0.3 km from each other. According to the Manning-Trickler formula, the water heads with a cross-section of flow taking into account the conditions in the channel are combined into a simple lever system. The cross-section of flow can also be determined by means of a communicating system consisting of a fixed tube and propelling vessel or float with electrical or mechanical transfer.
