Copolymers consist, by wt. of 88-99.5% acrylonitrile, opt. =11.9% one or more co-monomers and 0.1-12 % 3-allyl-hydantoin deriv. having the general formula (I): (where R1 and R2 are 1-6C alkyl, opt. nitro- or halogen gp.-substd. aryl or R1 and R2 together form a 5- or 6-membered ring; R3 is H, 1-6C alkyl or opt. nitro-or halogen-substd. aryl). The copolymers are used in fire-resistant film-, foil-, fibre- and filament prodn. Yields may be 60-85% (w.r.t. total monomere with K-values 70-100.
