Armature winding for small commutator motors - is fitted with unequal numbers of conductors in each slot and has symmetrical distribution of inequality
Armature winding for small commutator motors - is fitted with unequal numbers of conductors in each slot and has symmetrical distribution of inequality
In small low voltage motors, particularly those with permanent magnet excitation as, for example, blower drives in motor vehicles, it is often difficult to obtain satisfactory performance with an equal number of turns per armature coil. This difficulty can be overcome by winding some of the coils with one less turn than the remainder thus giving unequal numbers of conductors per slot but a fine adjustment of the number of conductors per armature path and hence better control over performance. The number of coils thus altered should be an even number and their location round the armature is preferably made symmetrical. Normally, such measures would apply only where there are less than 50 turns per coil.
