The spanner is particularly for freeing tight nuts on the road wheels of motor vehicles, and has an actuating lever (1) on the end of which is a supporting bearing (4, 10) fitting over one of the wheel nuts, also a second lever (2) with a socket spanner (4') fitting on the nut to be released. A link (3) connects the free end of the second lever with the actuating lever at a point near the supporting bearing. The length of the second lever and/or of the link can be adjustable, and the actuating lever can be equipped with several different coupling points (5, 5') for the link.
