A choke has a particular geometric form of winding and core arrangement such that a good accuracy of magnetic circuit airgap can be easily established. The core consists of a number of sets of concentric waves arranged in a cylindrical form and held in place by two yokes at the ends of the cylinder. The electric windings are wound round these from the centre of the cylinder to the circumference, radially, and produce a field round the cylinder. This magnetic circuit is interrupted by a radial airgap in the core wafers, and the properties of the choke are determined by the dimensions of this. The wafers are insulated from each other electrically to prevent eddy currents in the usual way, but additional airgaps exist between the various sets of wafers.
