A coupling device for the rails of model electric railways in which the rails are mounted on a somewhat trapezoidal shaped running track with link couplings such that a motion at right angles to the track direction is used to couple or uncouple rail sections has an extended movable fishplate extending along the rail from its end. The fishplate has a foot mounting with edge mountings making angled sections to the foot mounting sections. The fishplate can be slid onto the rail such that the foot mountings make contact with the rail bottom and can be slid along to contact the rail foot on its outer edges and top surfaces.
