Slow-acting nitrogenous fertilizers - contg condensates of urea, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde

Compsn contains a condensate of urea, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in which the molar ratio of formaldehyde to acetaldehyde is ca 1:1 to ca 20:1 and the molar ratio of urea to formaldehyde and acetaldehyde is ca 1:1 to ca 2:1. The condensate can be produced by reaction of the individual components with each other under suitable conditions, or acetaldehyde can be reacted with pre-formed condensates of formaldehyde and urea. The condensation can be carried out in the presence of an inorg. fertiliser salt so that a fertiliser cpd is formed which contains the condensate as the slow-acting nitrogenous component.
