1461058 Azo dyes containing indole residues BAYER AG 20 May 1975 [26 June 1974] 21518/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises dyes of Formula I where D is the radical of an aromatic-carbocyclic diazo component, X is -OH, -NHSO 2 R 7 , -N(R 8 )alkylene OSO 3 H, -N(R 8 )alkylene SO 3 H, -N(R 8 )arylene SO 3 H, -N(R 8 )arylene CH 2 SO 3 H or -N(R 8 ) arylene SO 2 NHSO 2 R 7 , R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or carbalkoxy, at least one of R 1 and R 2 being H, R 3 is H or alkyl, each R 4 independently is halogen, CN, alkyl, alkoxy or SO 3 H, R 5 is alkyl or aryl, R 6 is H, acyl or SO 3 H, R 7 is alkyl, aryl or dialkylamine, R 8 is H or alkyl and n and m are each 0, 1 or 2, provided that the total number of acid groups i.e. -SO 3 H, -OSO 3 H and -SO 2 NHSO 2 - per molecule is 1 or 2, and any alkyl or aryl moieties or groups may be substituted. The dyes of Formula I may be prepared by azo coupling, mixtures being obtained by using a mixture of coupling components, or by reacting a dye of formula with an epoxide of formula and subsequently optionally esterifying the dye obtained in which R 6 is OH. The dyes of Formula I may be used to dye or print synthetic polyamide materials and give yellow and orange shades.
