A heat recuperator for the hot gas outlet of a central heating furnace has a box shaped chamber with insulated sides and top, with at least one removable panel, and with two large oval holes through one side for entry and discharge of combustion gases. Inside is mounted a set of serpentine water circulation coils mounted one above the other, with a pump at the entry connection to circulate the water. Baffle plates can be located between the coils, and an upper discharge hole can be located near the top for additional discharge of cold combustion gases, also an air purge can be fitted. Alternative designs include a set of vertical heat exchange tubes each made from a sandwich of two corrugated sheets, giving a finned design.
