The cable is wound into a helical groove (2) on the surface of the rotating drum or barrel. The drum or barrel (1) is mounted on a plate (7) so as to be able to rotate about an axis perpendicular to that of the barrel. The plate (7) is carried on a lower plate (8) and has semicircular notches (10) cut into its edge. The lower plate has cylindrical studs (11) arranged in a curve, corresponding to the cut-outs. The arrangement is such that, as the cable (3) is wound into the groove, the plate (7) rotates, ensuring easy entry of the cable into the groove.
