New appts. for culturing on a fine mineral substrate comprises (A) an irrigation system attached to the culture unit comprising (a) a vessel to hold the substrate on which culture will take place, (b) perforated drainage tubes at the bottom of the vessel, and (c) porous inlets at the bottom of the vessel to supply water and nutrients to the plants grown on the substrate; and (B) an appts. for supplying water and nutrient comprising (a) reservoir for water and nutrients, and (b) a pressure regulator; this distributor (B) is connected to the porous supply tubes which are kept at a more or less constant pressure. The soilless culture of vegetables is independent of climate, free foam from contamination and suitable for growth of lettuce, tomatoes, melons, cucumbers and peppers.
