Parent Patent describe the production of a dynamic gas laser, esp. a CO2 laser, using a gas turbine engine in which one or more fuels are burnt in compressed air to obtain a gas mixt. with laser properties. The pressure of the gas mixt. is then reduced aerodynamically using a system of supersonic nozzles, which are followed by an optical resonator. The novelty in the present invention is that at least one fuel is a hydrocarbon used in an amt. sufficient to give an equivalence rate (E.R.) of the fuel/air mixt. immediately before combustion of 0.35-0.85, where E.R. = ratio fuel/ari of the gas mixt. stoichiometric ratio of the fuel/air in the gas mixt. Used e.g. on figther aircraft, where the combustion gases from a jet engine are used to supply a laser. With a total gas flow of 100 kg/second it is easy to draw off 10% contg. energy of 40 k W/kG/sec. to produce a laser with 100-200 kW output.
