S: methyl -(3)-furfurylidene -(2)-methyl dithio carbazate - fungicide prepd by reaction of furfural with S: methyl-(2)-methyl dithio carbazate

New dithiocarbazate deriv. is of formula (I). Cpd. (I) is a fungicide for the treatment of seeds and plants. It is less toxic and more active, esp. against Tilletia than organo mercurial fungicides. (I) is esp. useful in treating cereal seeds, 50-1500 p.p.m. being used. In an example (I) was prepd. by treating 2.7 g. S-methyl 2-methyldithiocarbazate with 1.9g. furfuraldehyde in 50 ml. ethanol and 5 ml. acetic acid to 3.3g. (I), m.pt. 98 degrees C.
